But first…

If you asked me several weeks ago about Ticketmaster’s business model — or the debate over the notwithstanding clause — I’d look at you like this 😐

But after writing more than 50 articles since we launched, I feel more like this 🤓

After reading some of them, hopefully you do too!

To learn more about the governor general, I interviewed Bradley Miller, associate professor at the University of British Columbia. He gave me a perspective I admittedly never would have considered.

I also connected with Franco Terrazzano from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation who provided a different, but equally valid POV.

Take a read below and let me know what you think by voting in our poll.

Have a great day!

It’s central to the fabric of Canada

A governor general helps protect Canada’s constitutional system by remaining non-partisan and handling key constitutional duties — not party politics or policy-making. Louise Arbour’s appointment highlights the office’s real value: preserving continuity of the state, military tradition, and recognizing extraordinary Canadians. Remove the role and something uniquely Canadian disappears with it.

It’s a very expensive rubber stamp

The governor general hasn’t rejected a prime minister’s advice since 1926, yet taxpayers fund a mansion, staff, travel, pensions, and a six-figure salary for the role. If Canada’s institutions can function without any meaningful intervention from Rideau Hall, the office becomes an expensive relic of the British Empire. As deficits climb and costs grow, there must be a way to do things cheaper.
